Using old world gilding techniques, genuine metal leaf is hand pressed onto each coaster, and beautiful altered art imagery is printed directly onto the leaf, giving it a 'crackled' look. Sealed with double layer of waterproof resin and backed with cork to protect your surface. They are handmade in a 6-step, 5-day process and gilded metal leaf is applied in silver, gold or genuine copper.
Beautifying objects with gold leaf dates back to ancient times with a style characteristic of Byzantine and Renaissance art. Statues, plaques and panels were carved from hardwood, then embellished with gold leaf.
